City of Valdosta
Valdosta is home to two state-operated schools, Valdosta State University and Valdosta Technical Institute. Valdosta State University was originally founded in 1906 as South Georgia State Normal College for Women, and became part of the University System of Georgia in 1950.
According to 2000 Census, the City of Valdosta had a population of 43,724 persons. Between 1990 and 2000, the city experienced a population increase of 9.2%, compared to the state growth during this period of 26.4%.
